“Disasters happen and when they do, tell your insurance provider you need Chavez”
Sewage back-flows or sewer backups are unquestionably more complicated than a typical “fresh” water loss or water intrusion. Sewage back-flows carry a high potential for infectious, pathogenic bacteria and viruses in the water. These nonvisible (naked eye) microorganisms elevate sewer back-ups to more than just an icky, smelly, unsightly mess. Sewage back-flows rise to a health concern risk for all humans but especially for children under the age of 7, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.
As a property owner, your first thought might be how contaminated is the sewage water, does it look contaminated or does it smell bad? Since you are dealing with microscopic contaminates, it would be impossible to detect the level of contamination accurately from sight or odor alone. Where the water originated from, is relevant to whether you have just a water intrusion or an actual biohazard. If the water source is a waste water line, regardless of how it looks, is contaminated water.
Our protocol for phase 1 of a typical sewage back-flow consists of quickly removing contaminated water, initial decontamination of affected areas, demolition of saturated building materials, and removal of porous, non-salvageable contents. Once completed, we pressure clean all affected areas, to “wash and rinse” the remaining sewage residue away. Phase 2 & 3 of our protocol would be a complete dry down and a detailed final cleaning of all affected areas.
Sewage back-flows present the same drying concerns like typical water damage; finding areas of trapped moisture, quickly reducing high humidity are imperative to keep the sewage loss from evolving into a mold problem. Our emergency response teams are experienced mitigating and restoring sewage damaged structures to their pre-loss conditions since 1967. Our teams will inspect and formulate a remediation plan that will restore the wholesomeness to your home or business. We are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; we are on call … so you don’t have to be!
